Day-by-Day Itinerary – 2 Days Tour from Marrakech to Merzouga
Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas – Ait Ben Haddou – Draa Valley – Merzouga – Camel Trek – Desert Camp
As we wind through the mountains, we’ll make several stops at panoramic viewpoints where you can capture breathtaking photos of the landscape and traditional Berber villages that dot the mountainsides.
Our journey continues to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou, an impressive fortified village (ksar) that has served as a backdrop for numerous Hollywood films including Gladiator and Game of Thrones. You’ll have time to explore this ancient mud-brick city and marvel at its well-preserved architecture.
After lunch, we’ll drive through the Draa Valley with its lush palm groves and ancient kasbahs, continuing toward the Sahara Desert. By late afternoon, we’ll arrive in Merzouga, the gateway to the Erg Chebbi dunes.
Here, your desert experience truly begins as you mount camels for a 1-1.5 hour trek into the heart of the Sahara. Watch the sun set over the golden dunes—a magical moment that transforms the desert landscape with vibrant colors.
Upon reaching our desert camp, you’ll be welcomed with traditional mint tea before enjoying a delicious Moroccan dinner under the stars. The evening continues with Berber music around the campfire, creating an authentic desert atmosphere before you retire to your private tent for the night.

Day 2: Merzouga – Rissani – Nkob – Draa Valley – Ouarzazate – Marrakech
Rise early to witness one of nature’s most spectacular shows—a Sahara Desert sunrise. The changing colors as dawn breaks over the dunes create a photographer’s paradise and a moment of tranquility you’ll never forget.
After breakfast at the camp, you’ll trek back by camel to Merzouga village where our driver will be waiting. We’ll then begin our return journey to Marrakech, taking a slightly different route to experience new landscapes.
We’ll drive through the arid pre-desert regions with their distinctive acacia trees, making photo stops at scenic viewpoints. Our route takes us through the Draa Valley—home to Morocco’s longest river—where you’ll see lush date palm oases contrasting with the surrounding arid terrain.
As we continue, we’ll pass through Ouarzazate, known as “The Door of the Desert” and home to major film studios. You’ll have free time for lunch here before we begin our ascent back through the High Atlas Mountains.
The afternoon drive offers more spectacular mountain scenery as we make our way back to Marrakech, arriving in the early evening (around 7:00-8:00 PM). We’ll drop you off at your accommodation, concluding your Marrakech to Merzouga desert tour 2 days private trip.
